On a Tree Fallen Across the Road

(To Hear Us Talk)

The tree the tempest with a crash of wood

Throws down in front of us is not to bar

Our passage to our journey's end for good,

But just to ask us who we think we are.

Insisting always on our own way so,

She likes to halt us in our runner tracks,

And make us get down in a foot of snow

Debating what to do without an axe.

And yet she knows obstruction is in vain:

We will not be put off the final goal

We have it hidden in us to attain,

Not though we have to seize earth by the pole.

And, tired of aimless circling in one place,

Steer straight off after something into space.

I like the idea that all the stuff that gets thrown in front of us isn't to stop us, just to ask us who we think we are. I guess those are actually the times that we learn the most about who we are, aren't they? Excellent choice of words for today :)

Lovely words. I was thinking about your home and especially your flowers in the front yard during my morning shower. Any chance you could pull some of them up prior to excavating and replant after the work is finished--or plant elsewhere and replant next spring?? Might be nice to be able to salvage some of the old as you're planning and planting your new garden.AnnieH

C,

I know you're serious but your comment totally made me laugh. And that's a GOOD thing. Maybe we should go to www.get-a-goal.com for help? ; )
