« Art journal | Main | What she carries »

She's already made up her mind

She said something about going home
She said something about needing to spend some time alone
And she wondered out loud what it was she had to find
But she's already made up her mind

All my friends told me she was too young
Well I knew that myself and I tried to run
But the faster I ran the more I fell behind
Because she'd already made up her mind

She's already made up her mind

Now there is nothing so deep as the ocean
And there is nothing so high as the sky
And there is nothing so unwavering as a woman
When she's already made up her mind

So now she's sitting at one end of the kitchen table
And she is staring without an expression
And she is talking to me without moving her eyes
Because she's already made up her mind

She's already made up her mind
She's already made up her mind

And she said something about going home
And she said something about needing to spend some time alone
And she wondered out loud what it was she had to find
But she'd already made up her mind

So my friend carry me down to the water's edge
And then sail with me out to that ocean deep
And let me go easy down over the side
And remember me to her

She's already made up her mind
She's already made up her mind
She's already made up her mind

--Lyle Lovett

Possibly the most hauntingly beautiful video ever. So Southern in its scenes and sensibility.

See it here-- or here if you're in Europe.

Thanks for reminding me about him :)
Europeans have to go here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=PmjYJy5CIM4&feature=related as your link isn't open to us.

Off to listen to some more Lyle now.

Joshua Judges Ruth was one of the first CD's I ever bought - when I'd finally moved on from LP's. Thanks for reminding me why I adored him. I still should!

That was great. I am not really familiar with Lyle's work. Haunting is definitely the word for this video. I think this song will stick in my head for a while. Thanks for sharing it.

I also enjoyed reading the comments at YouTube ... the ones about him being married to Julia Roberts. That union still baffles me.

It can be both fun and comforting to have a boyfriend ;-)

Well, I see, V ... I guess you are the reason that the marriage with Julia didn't last ... HOMEWRECKER!

Did you know Lyle has a degree in journalism? So sexy. : ) Plus the fantabulous grey matter under the wild curly hair...and the crooked mouth. Sigh. Julia didn't deserve him. She didn't have a degree in journalism, curly hair, or cowboy boots. Wrong Grrrl.

LMAO ... yep, definitely wrong girl--sorry, don't think she deserves the "grrrl" moniker ;-) !

I adore Lyle Lovett. Thought he was my second husband, but can see now that he's left me for you. Told me he was going out for cigarettes one night after dinner...In a bit of a quietly sad mood myself so hope you aren't offended that I post this music video on my blog with all credit to you Ms. Lyle's New Girlfriend. Thanks for showing him off. Well Annie, as Lyle says, "Nobody Knows Me Like My Baby"

It's Sunday, and I might get all religious in a weird kinda West Texas way and suggest we might just be able to share him. But lord, no prairie dresses and braids! I have my limits!!!!

Lyle don't need no stinkin' braids. He loves us as is, which in my case is a face and a voice like Rocky the Squirrel. Rocky hates prairie dresses and braids. He chews on them.
